Procedures for Obtaining
Continuing Education Credit
Sponsors of a Continuing Education Program
Associations or organizations conducting a continuing education program for its members or staff may apply for prior approval of the program. If the program is approved by the Board all licensees who attend do not need to request individual approval. An officer of the organization should complete the form titled “Application for Prior Approval of Continuing Education Program/Activity.” The licensee must submit to the Board not less than 30 days from the beginning date of the program the original form, a copy of the form, and a self-addressed, stamped envelope. The organization should keep a copy of the request form for the organization’s files for future reference. The Board will return the copy of the request noting approval or denial of the request. If the organization has not received notice from the Board within three weeks of submission the organization may contact the Board. The Board does not have the authority to retroactively approve continuing education activities and programs.

Licensees Requesting Prior Approval
Programs sponsored by ASHA, AAA, IHS, MSHA, MAA or the Hearing Society of MD, DC, and DE are automatically approved by the Board. Programs approved by these organizations for continuing education are approved by the Board in most instances. Licensees are strongly encouraged to request prior approval of a program if in doubt concerning the status of a continuing education program.
Licensees must obtain prior approval for continuing education activities and programs if not already approved by the Board. This will allow the Board time to review the licensee’s request and notify the licensee of the results. Licensees that attend programs that are not approved will not receive continuing education credit for those programs. Licensees that attend programs that are approved for a lower number of CEUs than advertised by the provider will only receive credit for the number of CEUs approved for. Prior approval by the Board eliminates confusion regarding the acceptance of a continuing education activity or program. The Board does not have the authority to retroactively approve continuing education activities and programs.
