Audiologists and
Speech-Language Pathologists Continuing
Education
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Audiology and speech-language
pathology licenses expire on May 31st of even number years. 20 continuing
education units must be obtained during the 2 year renewal period. One hour
attended at a program is equal to one continuing education unit (1 CEU). The 20
CEU's must be obtained between June 1st of the first year and May 31st of the
second year of the renewal period. (e.g. for the May 31, 2002 renewal, 20 CEU's
must be obtained between 6/1/00 and 5/31/02) If you are newly licensed, the
Board waives the continuing education hours for anyone licensed within the
renewal period.
If you hold a single license
in either speech-language pathology or audiology, you must obtain a total of 20
continuing education units in the two year renewal period. 10 CEU's must
be directly in the area of licensure. The remaining 10 CEU's may be in areas
related to audiology, speech-language pathology or both, including practice
management courses.
If you hold dual licensure,
(licenses in both audiology and speech-language pathology), you must obtain a
total of 30 continuing education units in the two year renewal period. 10
CEU's must be speech-language pathology, 10 CEU's must be in
audiology and 10 CEU's may be in related areas.
DOCUMENTATION OF CONTINUING
EDUCATION
Maintaining documentation of
continuing education credits is the responsibility of the licensee.
A licensee must:
- Obtain a certificate
of completion or a verification letter for each program attended.
- Maintain the
certificates or verifications in your files. Do not mail them to the
Board.
- At the time of license
renewal, the licensee signs a statement attesting to having obtained
the required 20 CEU's. Do not sign this statement if your 20
hours are not completed.
- All continuing
education records must be maintained by the licensee for four (4)
years after the renewal is completed.
- At the time of license
renewal, the Board will audit 10% of all licensees. Licensees
audited are chosen randomly by an off-site computer. Licensees who are audited
in one renewal period are not exempt from future audits. When the computer
randomly selects a licensee's name, the licensee has to submit documentation of
the 20 hours of continuing education courses attended with the renewal
application.
